Heading into Calgary along the QEII from Edmonton

Heading into Calgary along the QEII from Edmonton
Calgarians and Edmontonians have the most intense civic rivalry in Canada with booming economies and fanatical sports fans cheering on each cities teams in hockey, football and anything else we can think up. The rivalry basically started when Edmonton got to be the provincial capital and Strathcona (later to be amalgamated with Edmonton) won the site of the University of Alberta after that the gloves came off and ever since we have enjoyed a intense rivalry that the two urban siblings endure.

While the city of Calgary is larger, both metropolitan areas are basically neck and neck and Calgary has emerged as the head office city of Canada’s Oil industry Edmonton is the industrial and oil supply capital of Alberta’s immense oil industry, Also being the educational centre of Alberta with a huge a huge University Student population,

Calgary is close to the Rockies while Edmonton further north is in the heart of the province with a slightly lower profile but culturally is renowned for its festivals all summer long hosting the largest Fringe Festival in August second in size only to the largest global Fringe in Edinburgh while Calgarians have the high profile and legendary Calgary Stampede in July and the Canadian Finals Rodeo ends the Rodeo Season annually by being held in Edmonton.

Calgary has the Chinook winds in the winter while Edmonton has the largest urban park system in North America lining the banks of the North Saskatchewan River….And both cities are intertwined with people in both cities having both close friends and families constantly heading north or south for visits and keeping the real Alberta the greatest place to live in Canada.
